Coming off of Grand Island's 150 celebrations as a city, organizers wanted to bring back a community fireworks display. The desire is to have an annual event paid for through donations and run by a committee of community members. In the past, events such as this were put on by a sponsor business, but that put the burden on one business, rather than it being a shared responsibility of community members. We believe that this is a quality-of-life event and that it should be open to all demographics.

In our first year (2023), we learned about what was needed to put on such an event and now have an organized board, with committees. Moving forward, we want to grow the group of volunteers so that this can continue in perpetuity. Representatives on the committee include business owners/managers, City officials, and non-profit directors/managers.

In 2023, the fireworks display packed the parking lot at Fonner Park, as well as neighboring streets.
