Merrick County Health and Fitness Center

About the Organization

The Fitness Center in Central City, Nebraska opened its doors to local and area residents in April of 1991. The Center is a nonprofit organization and is supported completely by membership and program fees without the use of tax dollars. The original facility included an indoor walking track, indoor pool, hot tub/whirlpool, and a multi-purpose room with exercise equipment. The Fitness Center grew rapidly and it soon became evident there was a need for additional program areas to better serve its members and patrons. This campaign included full-sized regulation basketball/volleyball courts for youth leagues, 2 racquetball courts, a weight room with updated Cybex equipment, a mezzanine above the weight room, which is the cardio fitness area - with treadmills, studio-cycling bikes, elliptical machines, stair mill and a recumbent bike. The multi-purpose room was remodeled to include a meeting area with a small serving kitchen. One of the original racquetball courts from the first campaign was converted to a new weight room and cycling class room.
