About the Organization
The 12th Street Cinema opened in 1999. A board oversees decisions made for the theater and it is staffed with 1 manager and 2 operators. Hundreds of volunteers from adults to youth help run the concessions area. Other groups use the theater for parties and gatherings. Since Covid-19, many small town theaters around the nation have closed their doors never to reopen again. With the introduction and explosion in popularity of streaming services, many movie goers now stay home to watch movies. This has hit our theater hard over the last year. We are slowly making our way back with blockbuster movie releases and a few sold out weekends. Our board members have worked with local businesses to sponsor movies and bring free movies for the community to our theater. The original intention of our theater was to provide Aurora and the surrounding communities with an inexpensive theater for families to attend. We have only raised ticket price one time in 23 years Our concession prices have gone up minimally two times in as many years. We try to keep prices down while providing a family friendly experience that won't break the pocketbook.
